Things to Pray for Before a Service

Worthily Magnify

If you’re anything like me, and if your worship team is anything like mine, sometimes when you gather to pray (and I hope you do) before a service, you can either blank on what to pray or you can tend to pray the same sort of thing. What kinds of things are we supposed to pray for before a service? Here are some ideas:

That your worship team would be unified in the Spirit
All of us have different gifts, but we all belong to the same body (1 Corinthians 12:12-13). Your worship team needs the Spirit’s help to act as one body, not a bunch of individual members.

That Jesus would be made central
John the Baptist said in John 3:30 that “(Jesus) must increase, but I must decrease”. The Psalmist wrote in Psalm 115:1, “Not to us… but to your name give glory…”. These are…

Faith oh faith 💝

When you have faith in the All Powerful God, do you still need to put in actions for what you are believing God for? Can’t He just sort it all out for you ?

Well……Yes and YES😀.
The has to be action from your side. You do your part, and God does His part. I’ve been taught that when you are believing God for something, you need to engage some actions in addition to praying, to prepare for what you are about to receive.

Are there any examples from the Bible on faith combined with actions?
I just loooove examples – they can give you a clue when you don’t know what to do. [Now all these things happened to them as examples, and they were written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the ages have come. (‭I Corinthians‬ ‭10‬:‭11‬ NKJV)]
Let’s dive into some of the examples:
1) When the children of Israel were in a battle against the Amalekites, Moses said to Joshua, “Choose us some men and go out, fight with Amalek. Tomorrow I will stand on the top of the hill with the rod of God in my hand.” (‭Exodus‬ ‭17‬:‭9‬ NKJV) And so it was, when Moses held up his hand, that Israel prevailed; and when he let down his hand, Amalek prevailed. (‭Exodus‬ ‭17‬:‭11‬ NKJV). The actions: going out to fight the battle and Moses lifting up his hands.
2) When the Israelites needed water to drink, God said to Moses “Behold, I will stand before you there on the rock in Horeb; and you shall strike the rock, and water will come out of it, that the people may drink.” And Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel. (‭Exodus‬ ‭17‬:‭6‬ NKJV)]. Striking the rod was the action in this case.
3) When the Israelites were crossing the Jordan river, the priests who were carrying the Ark of the Covenant had to make a few steps into the water, then the Jordan river opened up for Israel to pass. [And it shall come to pass, as soon as the soles of the feet of the priests who bear the ark of the LORD, the Lord of all the earth, shall rest in the waters of the Jordan, that the waters of the Jordan shall be cut off, the waters that come down from upstream, and they shall stand as a heap.” (‭Joshua‬ ‭3‬:‭13‬ NKJV)]
5) Jehoshaphat inquired The Lord about how to handle the battle, and he and his team had actions they needed to do. [“You will not need to fight in this battle. Position yourselves, stand still and see the salvation of the LORD…tomorrow go out against them, for the LORD is with you…….So they rose early in the morning and went out….” (‭II Chronicles‬ ‭20‬:‭17, 20‬ NKJV)]. Positioning yourself, rising early in the morning and going against ‘them’ were some of the actions they had to take.
6) When Isaac needed a wife, Abraham sent (action) his servant to Mesopotamia while the angel of God went ahead of him [“but you shall go to my country and to my family, and take a wife for my son Isaac.” (‭Genesis‬ ‭24‬:‭4‬ NKJV)]
7) Men bringing their friend to Jesus so that He can be healed. [And when they could not come near Him because of the crowd, they uncovered the roof where He was. So when they had broken through, they let down the bed on which the paralytic was lying. (‭Mark‬ ‭2‬:‭4‬ NKJV)]

Just in case ……you are believing God, but don’t know which action you should take, don’t be shy to ASK:
1) If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. (‭James‬ ‭1‬:‭5‬ NKJV)
2) Without counsel, plans go awry, But in the multitude of counselors they are established. (‭Proverbs‬ ‭15‬:‭22‬ NKJV)
3) Jehoshaphat inquired from The Lord – “O our God, will You not judge them? For we have no power against this great multitude that is coming against us; nor do we know what to do, but our eyes are upon You.” (‭II Chronicles‬ ‭20‬:‭12‬ NKJV)

And Finally………

What does it profit, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can faith save him? (‭James‬ ‭2‬:‭14‬ NKJV)

What does it profit, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can faith save him?

But do you want to know, O foolish man, that faith without works is dead? (‭James‬ ‭2‬:‭14, 20‬ NKJV)

What does it profit, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can faith save him?

But do you want to know, O foolish man, that faith without works is dead?

Do you see that faith was working together with his works, and by works faith was made perfect? (‭James‬ ‭2‬:‭14, 20, 22‬ NKJV)

Meet and greet

goodwords1

Welcome to my very first BLOG. I thought I should start with introductions. It’s so good to meet people, get to know them, and develop some friendships. So are you ready to mingle? Every time you venture into a territory you get introduced you to significant people in that particular area. For example, in a work environment you schedule lunches, drinks and meetings, etc. just to get to know the people, see how things are done, learnt about the work culture and acquaint yourself with the ins and outs of the job.

Now, when you are a child of God, do you just relax and say “well….. God knows about me”? Yes, He does know about you. Actually, He knew you before you were born, read Jeremiah 1:5, Psalm 139:1 to confirm for yourself. He even knows how your life is going to unfold. So you are neither a surprise nor…

Meet and greet

So you are neither a surprise nor unplanned. Child of God, how do you get to know God because He has done His part, He knows about you, He is your Father. Let’s make life simple. To know someone better, you spend as much time as possible with them. You make time to be together. So can you make time to be with God, know Him better, and develop a relationship? He is so waiting for you to just ‘hangout’ out Him, over coffee or just like you go on a date. As simple as ‘Come near to God and He will come near to you(James 4:8).

You probably feel like “God is so big, how do I just ‘hangout’ with Him? Do I just sit and say hey God…I’m here?”. You are building a relationship here with your Father God. I love to make it simple, uncomplicated: 1) Find a quiet place because quality needs order, 2) Get a Bible, yes a Bible, 3) Ask God to open your eyes so that you can see wonderful things out of His Word(i.e. The Bible) (Psalm 119:18). Where do you start reading? Sometimes I just read the Proverbs, or the Psalms, or even the book of John. In this way you get to understand what the Father thinks about you, His character, the plans He has for you, and how much He loves you You can even play a worship song, a praise song, you can thank God for stuff that He has done for you, and that you are reading this blog now (Psalm 100:4). Spend time in the presence of God, child. The more you spend time with the Father, the more you grow closer to Him. Intimacy . Is that not amazing that the One who created the whole Universe knows everything about one person in some country somewhere in one of the planets? I get goose bumps when I think about that.

Read the word of God, listen to the word of God, play an audio Bible, get in as much of the word of God as possible. Take it like you are taking medication, day and night. That is what Joshua was instructed to do. Joshua 1:8 ‘This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For the you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success’. Now the secret for GOOD SUCCESS is out. Spending time with the Father, that is how you get to know Him. In the book of Daniel 11:33 ….’but the people who know their God shall be strong and do exploits’. These people shall succeed. You cannot succeed when you are weak. You need strength to succeed. As you spend time with the Father, you get strength to succeed.

Mission: Eat the Word (Jeremiah 15:16 ate the word of God), read the word of God aka the Bible, download an App, listen to your audio Bible, as much as possible. Make it a priority.

Have a fabulous weekend.
